Rachel Taylor MP meets with the policing and roads ministers

This month Rachel tabled a new law to tackle the scourge of freight crime that is taking over highways and motorway service stations across the country. Today, she met with the Policing Minister and the Roads Minister to discuss that law.

Rachel is campaigning for freight crime to be put on the national policing agenda and for more investment in secure parking spaces and welfare facilities. Almost 20% of people in North Warwickshire and Bedworth work in the freight and logistics sector, and many have told her about how freight crime is endangering their employees, losing their businesses money, and threatening their reputation with clients.

Her new law would introduce a specific crime code for freight crime, something the police and the freight industry say would make a huge difference in helping them tackle the issue.

This is part of Rachel’s ongoing work as Chair of the cross-party group on freight and logistics, and she will continue to listen to industry voices and constituents who are affected by freight crime.

Rachel said:

Meeting the Policing Minister and Roads Minister today was an important step to raise awareness about the damage freight crime is causing to our economy. Both Ministers were receptive to the plight that freight crime is causing businesses, and I am confident this government will work with me and the APPG for Freight and Logistics to tackle freight crime.
