Rachel Taylor MP Rachel Taylor Labour MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth

Rachel has welcomed the announcement that a Bedworth school has been chosen by the government as one of 300 schools to receive funding to host a school-based nursery, as part of Labour’s Plan for Change that will increase access to affordable childcare for parents.
Keresley Newland Primary School in Bedworth will receive support from the government to open the new nursery, as part of £37 million programme to deliver thousands of new nursery places in areas of the country impacted by a lack of provision.
The rollout is part of a wider government package of funding to support parents, with the guarantee of 30 hours of free childcare per week estimated to save parents up to £7,500 on average. The government’s pledge to fund breakfast clubs in every primary school will also save parents £450 per year per child, in addition to providing half an hour of free childcare before the school day. Labour is also capping the number of branded school uniform items parents can be required to buy by schools, saving some parents up to £50.
Welcoming the news, Rachel said:
Young parents often tell me that they are being held back by the lack of affordable childcare in North Warwickshire and Bedworth, with many forced to leave work, cut back on their hours, or rely on the generosity of grandparents because they simply can’t get the support they need.
I’m really pleased that the Keresley Newland Primary School in Bedworth has been chosen as one of 300 schools taking part in the first phase of this new scheme to deliver the support working parents need.
Combined with the government’s rollout of 30 hours per week of free childcare for young children, which will save the average family £7,500 per child, I’m delighted that Labour is putting money back in the pockets of families with young children in Bedworth.
