Rachel has visited the Gurdwara Dukh Nirwarn Sahib in Exhall to join in the Vaisakhi celebrations. The Sikh festival of Vaisakhi marks the first day of the month of Vaisakh and is traditionally celebrated on 13 April or 14 April to mark the spring harvest. At the Gurdwara Rachel met with local members of the Sikh community to celebrate the occasion.

After the visit she said:

I was incredibly grateful to be invited to the Gurdwara Dukh Nirwarn Sahib in Exhall yesterday to join in the Vaisakhi celebrations. Vaisakhi is a very significant event in the Sikh Calendar, so it was an honour to be welcomed by members of the local Sikh community.

Sikhs contribute so much to the communities they form part of in Bedworth, Coventry, and across the UK. They are guided by many of the values we aspire to in the UK including equality, justice, and service to the community. Ahead of VE day, it was also a great opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices Sikh soldiers made fighting alongside British troops in both World Wars. Happy Vaisakhi to all that celebrate.
