Rachel Taylor MP speaking in parliament

Rachel has voiced her support for a campaign being run by her constituent, Sarah Gayton, to improve disability access for bus services. Speaking in parliament, Rachel said she was pleased to welcome Sarah to Parliament to see her talk about the campaign in front of MPs as part of the ongoing debates taking place about Labour’s Better Buses Bill.

In her speech, Rachel said that disabled people can’t make the same choices as other people, like learning to drive, and are more reliant on public transport to get around. She particularly raised concern about a lack of wheelchair space on busy services, and the experiences constituents who use wheelchairs had raised of buses not stopping to pick them up.

Since raising the issue, Rachel has been contacted by Stagecoach Midlands, who have informed her that they will be in investing in 91 new electric buses that will accommodate two wheelchair users and have audio and visual next stop announcements to assist passengers with hearing and visual impairments. Rachel said she was looking forward to seeing these buses in action in North Warwickshire and Bedworth.
