Rachel and the Managing Director of Palace Bingo in Bedworth have welcomed the Chancellor’s decision in last week’s Budget to abolish Bingo Duty in full.
Until the Budget, bingo halls were subject to a 10% bingo gambling duty. The complete removal of the tax by the government represents a significant boost for traditional bingo venues and the communities they serve, many of which have supported the pastime for generations.
Bingo remains one of Britain’s most popular social activities, and Palace Bingo in Bedworth has recently undergone a major renovation – helping to attract new and younger players as the game enjoys a nationwide resurgence.
Rachel said the announcement was a “hugely welcome step” for a pastime that plays a central role in towns like Bedworth. She said:
“It was an honour to cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Palace Bingo less than a month ago, so I’m absolutely delighted that the Chancellor has abolished Bingo Duty and given a real boost to Bingo fans across the country.
“After a difficult few years in Britain, I think we could all use a bit more joy in our lives. I’m really looking forward to playing bingo here in Bedworth and seeing Palace Bingo thrive for many years to come.”
Peter Wooley, Managing Director of Palace Bingo Bedworth, also welcomed the move. He said:
“The government’s decision to abolish Bingo Duty provides a tremendous boost for our business, just as we reopen our doors with a vibrant new look. We’re excited to welcome both regulars and first-timers – bingo is great fun for all ages, and now is the perfect time to come along and give it a go.”
