Rachel Taylor MP Rachel Taylor Labour MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth

Following the announcement that the US will impose 25% import tariffs on foreign-manufactured cars, including those from the UK, Rachel has met with Jaguar Land Rover, who are a major employer in the constituency. She also raised their concerns about the new tariffs in parliament with the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Johnny Reynolds.
She said in parliament:
Many of my constituents in North Warwickshire and Bedworth work at Jaguar Land Rover or in the motor manufacturing supply chain, and they are really concerned about the addition of 25% tariffs for vehicle exports to the US. Can the Secretary of State set out what steps he is taking to get these tariffs reduced and to support West Midlands businesses before I meet with Jaguar Land Rover later today?
In response, the Secretary of State said:
JLR are an example of an incredible UK-based business in terms of their success in the US, but also in China and other parts of the world. We want to maintain that and we want to give them the platform they need for that success. I can tell her that I am in personal regular contact at the most senior levels with JLR. I’m delighted to hear that she’s meeting with them today to share some of these messages of reassurance.
I know like all businesses that they support – as we do – a calm, pragmatic, rational approach seeking to find a better trading relationship with the US, to improve the relationship, not just to avoid the imposition of what was announced yesterday evening.
