Families in Nuneaton and Bedworth will soon be able to enjoy three new playgrounds, after the announcement of £270,000 in funding from the Labour government.
The money is part of an £18m allocation to 66 councils across the country that are most in need of support, with projects set to be completed in two years’ time.
The investment is the latest in a string of exciting announcements by the Labour government and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council that will benefit the local area, including £20 million Pride in Place funding for both Bedworth and Camp Hill in Nuneaton, £1.5 million in further Pride in Place investment, and the new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub having recently opened its doors.
Rachel Taylor MP, Labour MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, said:
“This is fantastic news for Bedworth and a really important investment from our Labour government. Over the last six months more than 1,500 Bedworth residents have been consulted about the £20 million Believe in Bedworth regeneration project. They told us that the decline of green spaces and the lack of things to do for families with children are among their biggest priorities.
“This funding is yet another example of how Bedworth is finally seeing the investment it deserves after years of neglect under the Conservatives, with a brand-new playground being added to the list of exciting projects to look forward to over the coming months.”
Labour Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Steve Hey, said:
“Our Labour council is working hard to revitalise our parks and public spaces across Nuneaton and Bedworth, so this new government funding is a huge shot in the arm for those efforts.
“Families with children deserve fantastic free green spaces to relax and enjoy themselves in their local area, so I’m really excited to start work immediately with communities across Nuneaton and Bedworth to hear where and how they would like to see this money spent.”
