Rachel has called for the Prime Minister to stand down following recent poor local elections results. In a statement she said:

“Two years ago, I was proud to be elected to represent the area where I grew up and have spent most of my life. Standing up for my constituents will always be my only priority.

Since the election, there is much to be proud of: turning around our NHS, delivering new protections for workers and renters, investing in our communities, starting to rebuild our armed forces, and demonstrating leadership on the global stage in troubled times.

I have a great deal of respect for Keir Starmer, but speaking to people in my community, they are not feeling better off or more hopeful about the future. They are clear that there have been too many mistakes, and too many times when it doesn’t feel like their Prime Minister is on their side.

I watched the Prime Minister’s speech this morning with an open mind but I’m afraid I do not believe he demonstrated clearly enough the change my constituents need to feel. As the MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth it is my duty to reflect on the fact that my constituents have lost faith in the Prime Minister to deliver the change Labour promised at the last election.

That is why with a heavy heart I am calling on Keir Starmer to announce a timetable for his departure. We must now find a new leader who can rebuild trust in our politics, unite the country, and address the real challenges ordinary people are facing, as we promised.”
