Rachel said “it was an honour to be able to open” Coleshill Town Hall’s Centenary Celebration. Cllr Susan Wallace did a fantastic job putting together such a fitting celebration.
Rachel was joined on stage by Cllr Susan Wallace, who had organised the event, Reverend Reverend Sarah Tillett, and Cllr Michael Ford Terry, Mayor of Coleshill.
On opening the celebration Rachel said:
“Today we are not just celebrating a building. We are celebrating 100 years of community life. The story of this Hall is one rooted in foresight and generosity. Over a century ago in 1922 local people recognised that Coleshill needed a shared space:
A place where the community could gather celebrate and support one another…
For me I have performed in this hall as part of the Atherstone Dramatic Society at drama festivals and perhaps most memorably this was where the hustings took place in early December 2023 to select the Labour Party candidate to fight the 2024 general election.
Looking at today’s programme with performances from our Town Band schools drama groups and so many local organisations it’s clear that the spirit of 1926 is very much alive in 2026.”
The building opened 100 years ago, and it is still such an important part of life in Coleshill. Celebrations continued over the weekend and there was a whole host of talent on display from the Coleshill Town Band, poetry, drama, crafting and more.
