Rachel joining her blind constituent Michelle for a walk round Atherstone
Rachel put on a blind so she could experience getting around Atherstone the way her constituent Michelle does.
“It shouldn’t be this difficult for people to get around Atherstone safely. My constituent Michelle, who is blind, challenged me to put on a blindfold and use her cane so I could experience for myself just how difficult it can be to navigate some parts of the town centre with the cobbles and flagstones. It was a powerful reminder that everyone deserves the independence to get around safely, confidently and without unnecessary barriers.
“Too many residents and businesses have reported problems, and Atherstone remains another pothole hotspot that Warwickshire County Council must fix. Atherstone deserves better, and I will continue pushing for more than the unsightly dollops of tarmac or fading yellow spray paint so people don’t fear coming out in town.”
