Rachel has taken action after constituents reported the return of a foul smell emanating from the HS2 works. In a statement she said:
I am deeply frustrated that residents in Coleshill and Water Orton are once again having to endure significant odour issues linked to HS2 works.
In recent days, my office has received numerous reports from people describing the smell as overwhelming and unbearable, with some telling me they have been unable to open their windows. This is totally unacceptable during the hot weather.
Despite previous assurances from HS2 that mitigation measures would be in place and that odour impacts would be significantly lower than what was experienced previously the smell is now unbearable.
This is just not good enough from HS2.
I have written to HS2’s Chief Executive demanding an urgent update on what is causing these issues, what action is being taken to reduce them, and whether HS2 still stands by the assurances it gave to residents.
I have also asked the Environment Agency to investigate.
Residents deserve answers and action. You deserve confidence that everything possible is being done to minimise the foul odour that’s ruining your summer. I will continue to hold HS2 to account and will update residents when I receive a response.
