Rachel visited the site of the project with senior staff from the Environment Agency to show them residents’ concerns first hand and talk them through some of the problems that will need to be addressed. Rachel explained that she will only back the project if she feels residents are being listened to, environmental issues are properly address, and local people are properly compensated for disruption.
A number of Environment Agency permits will be required in order for the scheme to be built and for its operation. The Environment Agency will now be providing a detailed briefing and will be keeping in touch as the scheme develops to ensure residents’ concerns are heard.
